1st edition of the International Conference « Coastal Vulnerabilities, Monitoring and Developments »

Douala (Cameroon) – December 4 to 5, 2023

Responding to the urgent need to protect the coastal zones of Central and West Africa from climate change and human activities is the main objective of the Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society (CWCS), its partners (CFS, ACRITEE, APCAM, IRD), accompanied by around 100 experts and professionals from Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon to take part in the first edition of the international conference on coastal vulnerability, monitoring and development, held this Monday, December 04, 2023 in Douala. The event was held at the Akwa village hall, in the city’s 1st arrondissement.

During the conference, several oral and poster presentations were made on issues relating to biodiversity, sustainability and the vulnerability of coastal zones to erosion, submersion and flooding. Recommendations were made to local authorities and decision-makers for better coastal zone planning. Economic issues and the vulnerability of fisheries were also addressed. This international conference was held prior to the 3rd edition of the Workshop « Coastal zones of West and Central Africa – mapping vulnerability, adaptability and resilience in a changing climate (WACA-VAR) », from December 06 to 08, 2023 in Kribi, Cameroon.
